Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
ACI Certification programs are ADA compliant.
If you have a substantial, long-term impairment and are qualified to do a job, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) generally protects you from job discrimination on the basis of your disability. The ADA requires a physical or cognitive impairment to substantially limit one or more major life activities (e.g., walking, working, seeing) and typically does NOT consider temporary, acute conditions—such as a broken limb, concussion, or common cold—as disabilities.
Candidates seeking accommodation for their ACI Certification exams must provide reasonable advance notice directly to ACI before their scheduled examination session. If the Sponsoring Group (SG)/Testing Center is initially notified by the candidate, the SG should direct the candidate to notify ACI Certification directly. The candidate should still register for their certification session, indicating to the SG/Testing Center that they are seeking accommodation.
Accommodation Request Protocol:
- Candidate (or their agent) must provide a copy of a physician’s letter* (or an Individualized Education Program from their educational institution) to ACI Certification. The candidate must also indicate which ACI Certification program they are seeking. Please send to: aci.certification@concrete.org.
*The letter should specify the need for accommodation along with the recommended accommodation(s) for a written examination and/or hands-on performance/practical examination, as needed.
- ACI Certification will review the request and either accept the recommended accommodation(s) or formulate an alternative approach as it relates to the specific certification being sought.
Please note: ACI does NOT grant complete exemptions from either its written or hands-on performance/practical examinations if the certification program requires them. The candidate would still be required to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and/or proficiency on those exams in a manner as prescribed by the accommodations.
- ACI Certification will reply to the candidate and/or the SG/Testing Center with its recommended accommodations in a formal letter.
- The candidate should communicate with the ACI SG/Testing Center to ensure that they have also received the accommodation letter. Certain accommodations may affect the scheduling of an examination—the candidate should therefore confirm the scheduling and details of their session.
Please note that all requests are handled on a case-by-case basis and must be made allowing enough time for evaluation and appropriate action by ACI.
